This is an example of a tour I put together many years ago, it remains my favourite

5 Day – The Hidden North

There cannot be a more cultured area anywhere in the world than this area of the Veneto and the Capital seems a good place to start

Day One – Venice

A museum in itself – the City in the Lagoon. It is unique and strangely haunting. The Grand Canal was the first highway in Europe

Day Two – Mantua and Sabbioneta

Mantua - The city of the great “Gonzabas” revealing all their wonderful buildings and architecture of the Renaissance

Sabbioneta – the dream classical city of the 16 th Century. The great Artists painted their “ideal city”,Vespasiano Gonzago built his!

Day Three – Bassano del Grappa and Asolo

Bassano del Grappa - The most beautiful town at the foot of the Dolomites, home of the world famous Grappa and the “old Bridge”. We may even try a Grappa or 2!

Asolo - The hill town of 100 horizons! Once the home of Robert Browning. Not to be missed! The Villa Cipriani for Lunch, Dinner, Afternoon Tea or all three!

Day Four – Padua

The most underrated city of Northern Italy with its chapel painted by Giotto (14 th C) and so much more to discover in the great University city

Day Five – Vicenza and Verona

Vicenza – the city of Palladio the great 16 th Century architect, including a visit to the wonderful theatre he designed in 1580

Verona – the Rome of the North, so many Roman sites including the Roman Arena. A centre for entertainment since the 1 st Century AD. Home to the world famous Opera.
